Board Game Battles: Where Strategy Meets Fun!

Strategic thinking

Board game competition at Walnut School

Recently, our Shivane campus Std. 4–5 students and Wakad campus Std. 6–8 champions showcased incredible strategic thinking during our board game competition! Watching these young minds analyse moves, collaborate with teammates and handle both victories and defeats with grace reminded us why board games are such a powerful learning tool.

At Walnut School, board games aren’t just fun activities — they’re carefully selected brain-building exercises that develop critical thinking, problem solving and social skills. From Chinese checkers to strategic card games, our students learn to think fast, take calculated risks and bounce back from setbacks in a safe, supportive environment.

What made it special:

  • Team spirit: Students formed dynamic duos across divisions and genders
  • Strategic thinking: Real-time application of classroom strategic thinking lessons
  • Independence: Students navigated challenges, made decisions and solved problems on their own
  • Sportsmanship: Graceful winners and learners who turned defeats into growth opportunities

What does it take for a 12-year-old to defend a position on national tax policy? Or for a 4-year-old to stand on stage for a full minute without a script?

At Walnut, we believe these aren’t just extracurricular activities—they are the building blocks of confidence, critical thinking and character.

This July was packed with events designed to put these skills to the test. Inside this month’s newsletter:
The Debate: Why we’re asking Std 6 students to argue like economists.
The STEM Challenge: How our students handle the “unprepared” follow-up question.
Baby Walnut: The science behind why shlok recitation sharpens focus.
Sports Wins: Celebrating our athletes from the football field to the archery range.
