Game On : Walnut School's Exciting Board Game Competition

At Walnut School, we believe in nurturing all-round development through innovative and engaging activities. Our recent Board Game Competition for students across Std. 3 to 10 was a perfect example of how we combine fun with learning. What are the benefits of arranging such a competition? Allow us to list them out for you!

A Strategic Approach to Learning

The Board Game Competition doesn’t focus just upon who wins; but instead lays emphasis on developing critical thinking, strategic planning, and social skills among our students – while having a blast! This is an event that perfectly aligns with our vision of primary education in India.

The Games We Played

Our students engaged in age-appropriate games that challenged their minds:

  • Standard 3 : Fish Out
  • Standard 4 : Len Choa
  • Standard 5 : Watermelon Chess
  • Standard 6 : Salamanders vs. Frogs
  • Standard 7 : Array Capture
  • Standard 8 : Alquerque
  • Standard 9 : 6 Men Morris Board
  • Standard 10 : Wagh Bakri

All these games are specially curated by our R&D team to stimulate strategy – building skills among these young minds.

More Than Just Play

While the competition is undoubtedly loads of fun, it serves a greater purpose. As one of the top 10 CBSE schools in Pune, we focus on developing life skills to build smarter citizens of tomorrow. The Board Game Competition especially helps our students to :

  • Enhance problem-solving abilities
  • Improve communication and negotiation skills
  • Learn to strategize and plan ahead
  • Develop focus and concentration

The Competition Format

The event structure allows for maximum learning and participation :

  • Teams of two students compete together
  • Knockout rounds determine the winners
  • Time limits add the extra layer of excitement
  • Cheerleaders and think tanks (in the form of parents and friends) provide support from the sidelines

Preparation and Support

To ensure full participation, Walnut school :

  • provides all necessary game material at school
  • shares game rules and boards well in advance, for home practice
  • encourages students to form their own teams
  • offers support for students needing partners

Beyond the Competition

This event isn’t just about the day itself. It is always a part of our broader approach to education:

  • Providing a platform to develop quick thinking skills
  • Encourage these young, agile minds to navigate challenges on their own
  • Educating about the significance of participation

Why Board Games Matter

Board games are more than just entertainment. They :

  • develop critical life skills
  • improve social interactions
  • provide a healthy stress-relief mechanism
  • create lasting memories

Industry leaders like Reid Hoffman (founder of LinkedIn) have spoken about this too. Hear him talk about it in his podcast – Masters of Scale.
