Cycling is such a fantastic activity for parents and teens to enjoy together! It’s a great way to bond with our kids and make lasting memories.

It’s a great way to disconnect from technology and feel connected to nature while getting some much-needed exercise. Not only that, but cycling releases endorphins that can make you feel fantastic and energized!

Walnut School is dedicated to fostering the development of well-rounded individuals, which is why we not only prioritize academic excellence but also strongly encourage students and parents to embrace physical activities such as cycling during their free time. In line with our commitment to promoting sports and physical activities, we also incorporate daily sports as an integral part of our curriculum.

We all know the benefits of cycling such as improving cardiovascular fitness and strengthening muscles. For adults, it helps to manage weight and lower cholesterol as well. Cycling can be an excellent way for the whole family to stay active, enjoy the outdoors, and have fun together.

Pune is known for its rolling terrain and is quite cycling friendly, once you head out of the city, and avoid the highways.

So – let’s get started.

Our director, Nikhil Karkare is a very enthusiastic cyclist and has suggested some routes for you to try out!

But first, make sure you are properly equipped and being safe.

  • Make sure you have bicycles that are appropriate for your height and skill level.
  • It is very important to wear a helmet – OR DON’T RIDE!
  • A cycle carrier to take 2 – 3 bicycles to the starting point by car. That way you can do many interesting trails around the city easily. This is a great investment!
  • Carry water with salt and electrolytes (limboo pani types) in a backpack while you are cycling.
  • Start cycling at 6 am, finish before 9 am to avoid heat problems (and traffic too).
  • No listening to music while riding. Stay alert.
  • Make sure the adult is cycling on the traffic side and the kid is on the inside.

Get STRAVA

Do download the STRAVA app on your phone.

  • When you start the ride, record the ride on the app. You can then share your ride details with your friends on STRAVA and also on any social media apps. You can see each other’s distances and timings. It’s fun!
