The Pune City Zone Sports Committee recently organised the Inter School Zilla Parishad matches for the year 2018-19. We are extremely pleased to announce that our students from Walnut School, Shivane have maintained a winning streak!

In Chess, Riya Marathe (Std. 8) and Samiha Kulkarni (Std. 7) have qualified for the Zonals. Riya, who has made it to the Nationals twice, had qualified for the Zonals last year as well.
Inspired by Judit Polgar, young Riya is now aiming for the Mayor’s Cup along with the Zonals. Samiha, on the other hand, has made it to the Zonals for the first time. She admits to having felt nervous at times, but is now focusing her energy into prepping for the Mayor’s Cup.

In Swimming, Avneesh Nair (Std. 6), Prem Patil (Std. 8), Varad Pathak (Std. 8), Mohit Inamdar (Std. 8) and Arjun Patankar (Std. 7) have made it to the Zonals with their flawless performances. Avneesh, who considers Michael Phelps as his role model, took up this sport on his uncle’s insistence. The decision turned out to be a winner, as within a short span, Avneesh has added a gold medal, a silver medal and a bronze medal to his medal tally.
Prem and Varad had both achieved the third rank in previously held State and club competitions. Mohit has won at the ZP and Zonal levels. Arjun, who started at the tender age of 5, has been consistent in his performance. His latest medal tally is at a whooping 38 gold medals and 20 silver medals!

In Lawn Tennis, Shravani Khawale (Std. 8) has qualified for the Zonals.  When asked whether she bows down to pressure, she was quick to reply, “Not really. I just really enjoy playing tennis.”
Shravani trains every day for two hours. She is now gearing up for the Nationals, which would be held in October.

Our students have really done us proud!
We wish them luck and more strength for their upcoming matches.

Diwali Carnival

Parents, children and staff were all decked up in their traditional finery. There was a grand display of mud forts made by the children. There were diyas, lanterns and rangolis too. There was food to go with it and the weather was just right. The atmosphere was all charged up and everyone was in high spirits. Oh what an evening that was!
